Ahmad Nadery Nadery
Ahmad Nader Nadery is the Chairman of the Independent Administrative Reform and Civil Service Commission and serves as Ambassador At-large for Freedom of Expression. Prior to joining the Commission, he worked as Senior Advisor to President Ashraf Ghani on Strategic Communications and Public Outreach affairs.
Also, prior to joining the government, Mr. Nadery was the Director of Afghanistan Research and Evaluation Unit – Afghanistan’s globally ranked think tank. He is the founder of Free and Fair Election Foundation of Afghanistan (FEFA) and was the Chairman of the Free and Fair Election Foundation of Afghanistan. Moreover, he worked as Commissioner of the Afghan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) for seven years.
In addition to this, Mr. Nadery was the Board Chairman of Open Society Foundation-Afghanistan. Mr. Nadery represented Afghan youth at the main UN peace talks for Afghanistan in the Bonn Conference in 2001, where the post-Taliban interim government was formed. Prior to his appointment at the AIHRC, he served as the director of Afghanistan programs of Global Rights, a Washington based organization.
Furthermore, Mr. Nadery served as the Spokesperson for the Emergency Loya Jirga (Grand Assembly) that elected head of transitional government) in 2002 where he was elected as the representative of the Afghan civil society in the Emergency Loya Jirga. He co-founded Afghan Civil Society Forum and foundation for civil society and culture. He has extensively written about politics, human rights, women rights and democracy in Afghanistan for national and global publications. Nadery taught constitutional law at the American University of Afghanistan in 2012. He is also serving as a member of Global Agenda Council on Fragile State of World Economic Forum. In the aftermath of the 2012 revolution in Libya, Mr. Nadery served as Advisor to the transitional government of Libya on rule of law and justice for two years,
He is a member of Board of Editors of the International Journal on Transitional Justice – published by Oxford. In 2005 he was awarded the title of “Hero of Asia” by Time Magazine and was recognized as Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum in 2008. He studied law and political sciences at Kabul University and did his master’s degree in International Relation at the George Washington University. He studied leadership at Kennedy school of government at Harvard University.
Mr. Nader Nadery has received several awards for his work in Afghanistan from international – globally recognized institutions.
