Being Apolitical is the Strength of Public Administration, Chairman Nadery Says

The “Public Administration in the Perspective of the Second Half of the Transformation Decade Symposium” was launched today in the Independent Administrative Reform and Civil Service Commission (IARCSC), in the presence of hundreds of senior civil servants, who have been recruited through open competition.

Participants discussed reforms and future prospects of the public administration, common vision and effective performance in public administration and how to gain citizens satisfaction, and shared their finding.

Ahmad Nader Nadery, chairman of the IARCSC, welcomed the launch of such symposiums on functions of the public administration and said: “members and employees of Afghanistan’s public administration have had less time to think about their own effective performance and ask how they can best achieve and attain the strategic goals of their agencies.”

Referring to the current situation, Mr. Nadery, talked about opportunities and challenges facing the public administration and added: “your being here as civil servants is a great opportunity because you have been able to be part of Afghanistan’s public administration based on merit, without political affiliation or pressure of influential figures. A major part of providing impartial and non-political services is the result of your work and efforts.”

Chairman of the IARCSC further added that impartial and apolitical services could give the government of Afghanistan more moral authority in peace negotiations and prevent any attempt at weakening and politicizing the public service administration.

In the “Public Administration in the Perspective of the Second Half of the Transformation Decade Symposium”, creativity and innovation in departments, team and joint work, the culture of delegating responsibilities and building the necessary trust within organizational units was also discussed.
